Air Conditioning Tampa – SEER
The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) is simply a measure of how efficient an air conditioner is working. Since air conditioners have always been a large user of electricity, the federal government mandated a minimum energy efficiency for all manufactured units after 1990 and use SEER as the measurement. All air conditioners manufactured now have a SEER of at least 13. Units with ratings of 13, 14, 15, 16 and now even 20 are currently in production. Air conditioners with a higher SEER use less energy to create the same cool climate as a unit with a lower rating, but will cost more.
Of course the questions is “Will the investment in a more efficient air conditioning system save me money in the long run?” If a unit were to be running for a few months a year in the northern United States in a average size house, an air conditioner with a SEER of 10 will use a little more energy but would most likely not be run enough justify the cost of a higher SEER. An air conditioner in the Tampa Bay area is used quite a bit more and any incremental investment in a more efficient air conditioner will without a doubt pay dividends in the long run.
